Prosperity"
Welcome to our town! Prosperity
is a family community with about 1,100 residents. We are located
in southern Newberry County, about 7 miles from the large
recreational Lake Murray, with its 500-mile shoreline.
Prosperity
is a Town that is composed of several 100- year old homes that
have been handed down through generations. Our growing community
has several new housing developments and more to come. We have a
thriving Business District that includes several banks, a
hardware & building supply center, a variety of restaurants,
insurance services, antique stores, a custom meat processing
plant, general home supply stores, an interior designer,
florist, auto parts, gas stations, a fitness and health club,
several beauty salons/barbers, tractor repair, and a new chain
grocery store. We have churches of many denominations
that offer various styles of worship
and numerous children activities. Our schools and teachers have
some of the highest ratings in the state. Our recreation program
continues to grow and offers more and more choices for our
youth.
In
2006 the Town Hall re-located in a newly renovated 100-year
old school building. Having the Police Department located under
the same roof is truly an asset to the town. The building also
houses our Civic Center that is used for community events,
private functions, and productions.
Employment
opportunities are good in Prosperity for both the professional
and laborer with a large saw mill and plywood plant, a consumer
packaging plant, vehicle component plant and a frozen food
plant. Our town is located 10 miles southeast of Newberry
and only 30 miles west of Columbia Area which makes for an easy
commute for our residents.
Our Prosperity
Merchant Association hosts an annual event “The Shoppers
Walk” the first Saturday in December. Everyone comes for the
hospitality, refreshments, entertainment, shopping, and gift
drawings, and of course, visits with Santa Claus. Our Prosperity
Christmas Parade, held the first Sunday in December, is fun
and entertainment for the whole family. The third weekend
in August is reserved for our Prosperity’s Hoppin’ Festival
which includes live entertainment, crafts, great food and family
activities. With
so much going on in Prosperity, we would love to have you come
visit, shop, eat or make it your home if you’d like.
Prosperity is a place where your neighbors are your
friends. We are a proud community and visitors and newcomers
alike will always be welcomed.
